Distinction Awarded By The Emirates Green Building Council For Project Implemented In A Dubai Hotel With Results For The Environment.

The Portuguese company ENERGIE was distinguished with the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) Green Building Awards, for the thermodynamic solar panel system it installed in the five-star hotel Radisson Blu Deira Creek, in Dubai.

The award awarded by the Emirates Green Building Council distinguishes organisations and projects demonstrating excellence in green building in the Middle East and North Africa. “This is further proof of the performance of ENERGIE’s solar panels, in terms of environmental sustainability,” stated satisfyingly the company’s CEO, Luís Rocha.

ENERGIE’s solar systems installed at the Radisson Blu Deira Creek hotel in Dubai won in the Retrofit Project of the Year category, for the results obtained in terms of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. “It is indeed a milestone for ENERGIE, as this prize is awarded by an independent panel of experts in the Middle East energy market,” said Luís Rocha.

The project began in August last year, with a challenge for the 100 per cent Portuguese company, based in Póvoa de Varzim. The hotel, explains Luís Rocha, “produced domestic hot water through a diesel boiler, with a high operational and environmental cost. The goal was to replace the diesel boiler with a thermodynamic solar system, which could guarantee the heating of the water used by the hotel,” he describes.

To meet expectations, 80 thermodynamic solar panels were installed. Currently, with the start-up of the ENERGIE system, “all the hotel’s water is heated through renewable sources” and, according to the company’s CEO, “the installation of thermodynamic solar panels allowed an 82 per cent reduction in operating costs and an 83 per cent reduction in the carbon footprint”.

It was these figures that earned the company the MENA Green Building Awards, in the Retrofit Project of the Year category. “The solar thermodynamic system exceeded the goals initially set for the project, managing to meet all the hotel’s needs, in terms of hot water, in an efficient and sustainable way,” stresses Luís Rocha, believing that the awarding of this prize could prove to be “important” for ENERGIE’s growth in the Middle East market.

Since its launch in 2013, the Mena Green Building Awards have been promoting the green building movement in the region, distinguishing the work of public and private sector entities in the area of environmental sustainability.

ENERGIE has been exporting to the United Arab Emirates since 2018. Worldwide, the Portuguese company exports to around 50 other countries and is responsible for the energy efficiency of several reference buildings, from the McDonald’s chain in Spain and Italy, to the Spanish Ministry of Industry or the Vatican, where four 500-litre systems are installed for the Swiss Guard.

Founded in 1981, ENERGIE produces thermodynamic solar panels with applications in the fields of central heating, domestic hot water, heating of swimming pools and heating of large volumes of water.
